FORT COLLINS – Director of Athletics John Weber welcomed Jack Kennedy as the head men’s golf coach on Friday. Kennedy comes to Fort Collins after spending the past eight seasons at the University of San Francisco.
“I am excited to welcome Jack and his wife Kelsey and daughter Lucy to Fort Collins. His vision for a complete student experience at Colorado State stood out amongst our strong candidate pool for the position,” Weber said. “Jack has a track record of success with his program on and off the golf course. He has helped many of his students at San Francisco achieve their dreams of professional golf. While winning and high achievement on the golf course are important to Jack, he puts a premium on education. We look forward to him continuing the strong tradition that is Colorado State men’s golf.”
“I am excited to come to Fort Collins to lead the men’s golf program. I am grateful for the opportunity and belief that John Weber has in my vision for CSU golf. His enthusiasm and desire to make CSU a national contender was a huge draw,” Kennedy said. “We want to be great on the course, in the classroom, and in the community. I am confident that we can continue to attract great players to our program. My family and I are very excited to join the Ram community.”
Kennedy led San Francisco to two NCAA Championship tournaments during his time in 2021 and 2023, with the Dons finishing 20th in the nation on the second trip. USF reached the NCAA Regionals four times under Kennedy, and they won eight team tournament titles.
In 2023 Matthew Anderson earned All-American honors as he tied for 11th at the NCAA Championship. He also earned Ping All-West Region honors.
While at San Francisco, Kennedy had 12 All-WCC selections including the WCC Freshman of the Year in 2018 and 2023.
He had a unique start to his coaching career beginning as a graduate assistant for the men’s basketball team from 2008 to 2010. He went on to be the director of operations at USF from 2010-12 and assistant coach for the 2012-13 season before coaching a year at San Jose State.
Kennedy returned to San Francisco in 2014 as the assistant men’s and women’s golf coach, holding that position until being named the interim head coach during the 2016-17 season and taking over the men’s program full-time in May of 2017.
A four-year golf letter winner at Grinnell (Iowa) College, Kennedy earned first team All-Midwest Conference honors in 2006. He also played basketball for the Pioneers under legendary head coach David Arseneault. During his sophomore season, Grinnell led the nation in scoring with a then NCAA-record of 126.2 points per game.
Kennedy was also responsible for starting the women’s golf program at The Gregory School, where he attended high school in his hometown of Tucson, Ariz. In their first year of existence, the team qualified for the state tournament. An accomplished player, Kennedy has competed in both the Arizona and California State Amateur Championships.
A native of Tucson, Ariz., Kennedy earned his degree in political science from Grinnell in 2006 and his master’s degree from USF’s highly-acclaimed sports management program in 2010.
