FORT WORTH, Texas — San Diego State sophomore men’s golfer Harry Takis (Brisbane, Australia) has been named a semifinalist for the 2026 Ben Hogan Award presented by Baird, the Ben Hogan Award and Friends of Golf announced Thursday.

Takis is one of 10 semifinalists for the award, which goes out to the top collegiate golfer. The Ben Hogan Award considers all college, amateur and professional events played over the 12-month period, which runs from the 2025 NCAA Championships through the 2026 NCAA Regionals.

On the season, Takis is the fourth-ranked player in the latest Scoreboard powered by clippd computer ratings, released Wednesday. He is averaging 69.42 strokes per round across eight tournaments and 24 rounds in 2025-26. The 69.42 would be an Aztec single-season record if he had enough rounds to qualify (27).

Out of his eight tournaments this season, he has one victory, two runner-up finishes, four top-5 efforts, five top-10 showings and six top-20 placings. Just yesterday, Takis finished tied for third at the Western Intercollegiate. With enough rounds to quality (50), Takis has the lowest scoring average in SDSU’s recorded history (since 1993-94) at 70.47 in 59 rounds.

The other semifinalists include Mahanth Chirravuri (Pepperdine), Ryder Cowan (Oklahoma), Ethan Fang (Oklahoma State), Filip Jakubcik (Arizona), Ben James (Virginia), Jackson Koivun (Auburn), Christiaan Maas (Texas), Preston Stout (Oklahoma State) and Tyler Weaver (Florida State).

The Ben Hogan Award has honored the outstanding amateur collegiate golfer at Colonial Country Club since 2002. Prior to its move to Fort Worth, the original Ben Hogan Trophy was issued by Friends of Golf at Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles, Calif., beginning in 1990. Since 2002, the foundation has donated more than $1.3 million to charitable endeavors, providing scholarship grants to colleges as well as gifts to golf programs and organizations in need.

Notable winners of The Ben Hogan Award include Hunter Mahan (2003), Ricky Barnes (2003), Chris Kirk (2007), Rickie Fowler (2008), Nick Taylor (2010), Patrick Cantlay (2012), Jon Rahm (2015 and 2016), Maverick McNealy (2017), Viktor Hovland (2019), Sahith Theegala (2020), Ludvig Aberg (2022 and 2023), Jackson Koivun (2024) and Luke Clanton (2025).

Three finalists will be announced on May 12 with the winner released on May 25 at the annual black-tie dinner in Fort Worth, Texas. The presentation style mirrors that of the Heisman Trophy ceremony, with each finalist’s year in golf being highlighted. The event is also aired live on the internet. In addition to national recognition, each of the finalists receives grants for their respective university’s men’s golf scholarship program.

Takis and the Aztecs will look for their unprecedented fifth consecutive Mountain West championship, set for May 3-5 at Omni Tucson National in Tucson, Arizona.
