COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State became the first team in Mountain West men’s golf history to sweep the Golfer of the Year, Freshman of the Year and Coach of the Year awards in the same season as the MW announced its 2024-25 Men’s Golf All-Conference team and individual awards today, as selected by the 11 head coaches.

San Diego State senior Justin Hastings earned Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Year honors, while teammate Harry Takis was the unanimous selection as the MW Freshman of the Year. Ryan Donovan made it a clean sweep for the Aztecs, as he was named the MW Coach of the Year.

Hastings, currently No. 25 in the Scoreboard by Clippd rankings, is the highest-ranked MW men’s golfer this season. The senior from Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, has posted six top-10 finishes in 10 stroke-play events, including wins at the Lamkin Invitational and the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Golf Championship. Hastings won the MW title at 18-under-par 198, just one stroke off the tournament record, matching the tournament’s 18-hole record and setting the Emerald Valley Golf Club course record with a 10-under 62 in round two, and setting a tournament 36-hole record at 15-under 129. A two-time MW Golfer of the Week this season, Hastings boasts a league-leading 70.0 stroke average, the best single-season mark in SDSU program history. Recently named to the international team for the Arnold Palmer Cup in June, Hastings won the Latin American Amateur Championship in January, earning an invite to The Masters, where he posted the best score by an amateur, and exemptions into The Open and the U.S. Open. Hastings is the seventh San Diego State player to be named the MW Golfer of the Year and the first since Puwit Anupansuebsai in 2019-20.

The top-ranked freshman in the MW and the sixth-highest-ranked league player overall, Takis enters postseason play at No. 118 nationally. The rookie from Brisbane, Australia, has put together a 71.2 stroke average this season and recorded a pair of runner-up finishes, placing second at the Lamkin Invitational at 12-under-par 204 and at the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Golf Championship at a collegiate-best 14-under 202. Twelve of Takis’s 32 rounds this year have been in the 60s, including a season-low 7-under 65 in the second round of the MW tournament. Takis, who earned MW Freshman of the Week honors three times this spring, is San Diego State’s fifth MW Freshman of the Year and first since teammate Dylan Oyama earned the honor in 2022-23.

Donovan is the MW Coach of the Year for the fifth time in his career and second in the last three seasons. Now in his 22nd season as the Aztecs’ head coach, Donovan has led San Diego State to a No. 16 ranking in the Bushnell/Golfweek DI Coaches Poll and the No. 15 spot in the Scoreboard by Clippd national rankings. Donovan’s squad has produced seven top-five finishes this season, including wins at the Lamkin Invitational, the Western Intercollegiate and the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Golf Championship, and runner-up finishes at the Preserve Golf Club Collegiate and the Southwestern Invitational. The Aztecs won their fourth consecutive MW title in 2025, posting tournament-record first- and second-round scores and 36-hole totals, and put three players in the top five and four in the top 10. With four All-MW selections this season, Donovan’s program becomes just the fourth team in MW men’s golf history to have four players selected to the all-conference team, joining the 2015-16 and 2017-18 UNLV units and the 2012-13 New Mexico squad. Donovan has directed the Aztecs into the postseason for the fifth straight season, as SDSU enters the NCAA Tallahassee Regional as the No. 3 seed.
