CRESWELL, Ore. – Three-time defending champion San Diego State shot a tournament first-round-record 19-under-par 269 on Friday to storm out to a nine-stroke lead after the opening round of the 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Men’s Golf Championship, which is being held at the par-72, 7,123-yard Emerald Valley Golf Club.

SDSU’s Tyler Kowack and Fresno State’s Joseph Lloyd share the individual lead at 6-under 66.

The Aztecs, ranked 17th nationally, placed their entire scoring four within the top six. After Kowack, Justin Hastings is tied for third at 5-under 67 and Nathan Sampson and Harry Takis are tied for sixth at 4-under. Chanachon Chokprajakchat shot a 4-under 68 and is tied for ninth as the entire SDSU lineup finished inside the top 10 on day one.

San Diego State’s 269 eclipsed its own first-round tournament record, supplanting the 272 the Aztecs put up in the opening round in 2023. It’s tied for the second-lowest round in any round in MW tournament history.

San José State sits third, one stroke back of the Lobos and 10 shy of SDSU at 9-under 279. Zubair Firdaus sits amid a three-way tie for third at 5-under 67 on the strength of four birdies over his final six holes.

UNLV is another stroke back at 8-under 280, with Caden Fioroni and Zach Little tied for ninth after posting matching 3-under 69s.

Fresno State is fifth in the team standings at 5-under 283, with Lloyd birdieing three of the final five holes and leaving his long eagle putt on 18 just inches short before an easy tap-in closed out his stellar round.

Utah State is sixth at 2-under 286, led by Estaban Jaramillo tied for ninth at 3-under 69. Nevada and Wyoming are tied for seventh at 1-under 287. The Cowboys’ Patrick Azevedo is also ninth at 3-under.

Boise State is even at 288 after day one, with defending MW individual champion Cole Rueck tied for sixth at 4-under 68. He is seeking to become the first two-time winner in Conference history.

Colorado State is 10th at 2-over 290, followed by Air Force at 5-over 293. The Falcons’ Eric Liveringhouse is tied for ninth at 3-under 69.
