COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico sophomore Oliver Cage has been named the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week and Fresno State’s Chris Bettencourt is the MW Freshman of the Week for the second week of the spring season.

The weekly honors are the first for both Cage and Bettencourt.

GOLFER OF THE WEEK
OLIVER CAGE, NEW MEXICO
Sophomore, Leeds, England

  • Playing as an individual at the N.I.T. at OMNI Tucson National, shot a 6-under-par 210 to tie for 19th, the highest finish of any MW golfer in the field.
  • Opened with a career-low 5-under 67 in the first round.
  • Added rounds of 72 and 71 for the top-20 finish.
  • The N.I.T. field included three teams ranked inside the top 25 and four players ranked in the top 125 nationally. MW squads Fresno State and Wyoming joined New Mexico in the 14-team field.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
CHRIS BETTENCOURT, FRESNO STATE
Clovis, California/Buchannan HS

  • Tied for 38th at the N.I.T. at OMNI Tucson National, the highest finish of any MW freshman in the field.
  • Turned in a 1-under-par 215 for the Bulldogs’ second-highest finish.
  • Sandwiched an even-par 72 and a 2-under 70 around a 1-over 73 in his spring debut.
  • The N.I.T. field included three teams ranked inside the top 25 and four players ranked in the top 125 nationally. MW squads New Mexico and Wyoming joined Fresno State in the 14-team field.
