COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced its 2022-23 Men’s Golf All-Conference team and individual awards today, as selected by the 11 head coaches. UNLV junior Caden Fioroni earned Mountain West Golfer of the Year honors, while San Diego State’s Dylan Oyama was named MW Freshman of the Year. MW Coach of the Year accolades were awarded to San Diego State’s Ryan Donovan.

Fioroni, who is currently ranked No. 39 nationally by Golfstat, recorded six top-10 finishes, including four top-three placements. In 33 rounds for the Rebels, recorded a 70.39 stroke average. Most recently, he finished in third place at the MW Men’s Golf Championship at Omni Tucson National, carding a season-best score of 15-under par. Fioroni is the first UNLV student-athlete to be named MW Men’s Golfer of the Year since Harry Hall in 2018-19 and ninth all-time.

Oyama is the first Aztec to earn MW Freshman of the Year honors since 2013-14 (Ricky DeSantis) and fourth all-time. The native of Carlsbad, California, led all MW freshmen with a 71.67 stroke average in 33 rounds. Oyama, who registered two top-10 finishes this season, is coming off the MW Men’s Golf Championship where he earned medalist honors after carding a 54-hole score of 19-under par, a Conference record.

Donovan is the MW Coach of the Year award for the fourth time and first since 2014-15. He guided San Diego State to a No. 23 national ranking by Golfstat and earned the league’s AQ after winning the 2023 MW Men’s Golf Championship last week at Omni Tucson National, shattering the Conference tournament record with a 60-under-par 804. Donovan, who has led the Aztecs to NCAA regionals in each of the last three years, coached the Aztecs to five top-three finishes, including victories at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate (September 23-24), Wyoming Cowboy Classic (April 3-4) and the MW championship (April 28-30).
