TUCSON, Ariz. – San Diego State widened its lead on the field during the second round of the 2023 Mountain West Men’s Golf Championship on Saturday, setting the MW championship record for lowest team score through two rounds (-32; 544).

The Aztecs, who broke the record previously set by UNLV in 2015, hold a nine-stroke lead over New Mexico (-23; 553). The Lobos two-round score is the third-lowest all time in tournament history.

UNLV sits in third place at -21; 555, while Colorado State (-19; 557), Wyoming (-14; 562) and San José State (-14; 562) round out the top five.

The individual leaderboard is much tighter as Colorado State’s Christoph Bleier sits alone at the top after shooting a 10-under 134 through two rounds on the Catalina Course at Omni Tucson National.

His 36-hole score of 134 is the fourth lowest through two rounds in MW tournament history.

Six golfers are within two strokes of Bleier, including a four-way tie for second place between New Mexico’s Albert Boneta, San Diego State’s Dylan Oyama and Shea Lague and UNLV’s Caden Fioroni at nine-under.

Boneta, who shot a seven-under 65 on Saturday, was the biggest mover of the day, jumping up 16 spots into a tie for second place.

The average score for the first two rounds of the tournament was 71.87.

The final round of the 2023 Mountain West Men’s Golf Championship begins Sunday morning at 7 a.m. PT. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
