COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV’s Yuki Moriyama has been named Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week, while Nevada’s Alex Maxwell is the MW Men’s Golf Freshman of the Week. On the women’s side, San Diego State senior Bernice Olivarez Ilas is the MW Women’s Golfer of the Week.

It is the second weekly/monthly Conference honor for Maxwell and first for Moriyama and Olivarez Ilas.

MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
YUKI MORIYAMA, UNLV
Junior, Kanagawa, Japan / Oregon

  • Tied for a career-best second place at the Western Intercollegiate at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, California.
  • Carded a six-under 204 for the event, one of just 13 golfers out of 92 to shoot under par.
  • Only golfer to avoid a bogey on the back nine of Pasatiempo Golf Club this week.
  • Shot rounds of 68-67-69.

MEN’S GOLF FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ALEX MAXWELL, NEVADA
Mandurah, Australia / Mandurah Catholic College

  • At the Tiger Collegiate Invitational in Columbia, Missouri, shot a four-under 212 to finish in a tie for 29th.
  • Carded rounds of 71-71-70.
  • First time recording three-consecutive rounds below par in an event.
  • Finished the event second among the 78 golfers in par-3 scoring (2.75), while also tallying 36 pars, tying for fifth-most.

WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
BERNICE OLIVAREZ ILAS, SAN DIEGO STATE
Senior, Ayala Alabang, Philippines / De La Salle Santiago Zobel School

  • Competing at the Riverside Classic, helped lead San Diego State to a fifth-place team finish and its best 54-hole score of 2023.
  • Finished in a tie for sixth place, carding a two-over 218.
  • Tied for third-best Par 4 scoring for the tournament (4.07) and had the fourth-most pars for the week (39).
