BRYAN, Texas –– The New Mexico men’s golf team had a slow start to the NCAA Bryan Regional during Monday’s first round at the Traditions Club. The Lobos, seeded No. 4 in the field, shot 13-over during the first round and are in 13th place after day one.
Host Texas A&M holds the first round lead at 12-under. North Carolina is second at 10-under, while TCU (8-under), Texas (7-under) and Tennessee (6-under) round out the top five. The top five finishers will advance from the regional to the NCAA Championships, putting the Lobos 19 shots off the cut line with two rounds to play.
Johnnie Clark led UNM on Monday, shooting a 1-over 73 to be the low Lobo during the first round. Thayer Plewe shot 3-over, including scoring a par on each of his last 10 holes. Wyatt Provence shot 4-over, Emil Albers shot 5-over and Mesa Falleur rounded out the lineup by shooting 7-over.
The NCAA Bryan Regional continues Tuesday and concludes Wednesday at the Traditions Club.
