COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Grand Canyon sophomore Nixon Lauritzen was tabbed the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week while Wyoming’s Brody Knowlton was selected as the MW Men’s Golf Freshman of the Week. On the women’s side, UNLV’s Amber Chen was named the MW Women’s Golfer of the Week honor and teammate Demi Du collected the MW Women’s Golf Freshman of the Week nod.
MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
NIXON LAURITZEN, GRAND CANYON
Sophomore, Canyon Lakes, California/Temescal Canyon HS
- Led the Lopes to a tied-eighth place team finish at the Arizona Thunderbird Intercollegiate in a field of 14 programs.
- On a par 72 course notched an average of 71.3 per round with a low round of 70.
- Tied for 21st in a field of 81 competitors, tied or better than four top 125 ranked opponents.
- Shot a total 2-under 214 across the three rounds.
MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
BRODY KNOWLTON, WYOMING
Montgomery, Texas/Lake Creek HS
- Led the Cowboys at the Arizona Thunderbird Intercollegiate with a 2-over 218 on the 7,533-yard course.
- Posted a low-round of 71 in the first round followed by 75 and 72 respectively.
- Individually finished in the top half of competitors with a 37th place finish in a field of 81.
- His tournament finish marks the fourth consecutive event in which he led the Pokes.
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
AMBER CHEN, UNLV
Sophomore, Taipei, Taiwan
- Led the Rebels to a tournament championship at the Jackrabbits Invitational against 10 other programs.
- Collected her first career individual victory with a 9-under 207, tying her career-low, in a field of 63 opponents.
- Tallied a career-high 17 birdies across the tournament, posting round scores of 71-68-69, respectively.
WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
DEMI DU, UNLV
Las Vegas, Nevada/Trinity International School
- Helped the Rebels secure a tournament team victory while finishing seventh with a 3-under 213.
- Posted scores of 73-72-68 across the three rounds.
- Finished the event with a career-low round of 68 and surpassed her career-high birdie count with 11.
