COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico senior Mesa Falleur has been tabbed the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Month for September, while teammate Emil Albers has been selected as the MW Freshman of the Month.
The monthly honors are the first for both athletes.
GOLFER OF THE MONTH
MESA FALLEUR, NEW MEXICO
Senior, Muskogee, Oklahoma/Kansas City
• Fashioned a 69.22 stroke average over nine rounds, turning in seven rounds under par in helping New Mexico to a trio of top-two team finishes.
• Opened the season with a 7-under-par 206 to tie for third at The Wohali, firing rounds of 68, 72 and 5-under 66 in helping the Lobos share the team title at the inaugural event.
• Was 3-under at the William H. Tucker Invitational, tying for 19th and helping UNM to a second-place showing in its home tournament.
• Captured his first win as a Lobo and second collegiate win at the Windon Memorial, posting a 12-under 204 that included rounds of 68, 71 and a collegiate-best 7-under 65.
• Led New Mexico to a runner-up showing at the Windon Memorial and top-two finishes in each of its first three events for the first time since 2004-05.
FRESHMAN OF THE MONTH
EMIL ALBERS, NEW MEXICO
Freshman, Hamburg, Germany
• Turned in a 70.22 stroke average across nine rounds, posting a pair of top-10 finishes and earning his first career win.
• Shot a 13-under-par 203 (67-68-68) to become just the second freshman in the 70-year history of the William H. Tucker Invitational to win the individual title and the first since Stanford’s Tiger Woods in 1994.
• Became UNM’s first freshman individual winner since 2011-12.
• Tied for sixth at the Windon Memorial, shooting an 8-under 208 (70-68-70).
• Closed the month with six consecutive rounds under par, including four rounds in the 60s.
