COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico sophomore Miracle McKenzie was named the Mountain West Softball Player of the Week, while Grand Canyon sophomore Oakley Vickers was tabbed the MW Pitcher of the Week. The MW Freshman of the Week nod was awarded to Nevada’s Katie Wetteland.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MIRACLE MCKENZIE, NEW MEXICO
Sophomore, Infielder, Long Beach, California/St. Anthony HS
- Helped the Lobos to a 3-3 week with wins over UTEP (3-2), South Alabama (16-1, 5 innings) and Samford (403, in 8 innings).
- Logged a batting average of .538 on 13 at-bats with seven hits, six runs and two homeruns.
- Recorded a slugging percentage of 1.538 and an on-base percentage of .684.
- Defensively, tallied 32 putouts for the team.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
OAKLEY VICKERS, GRAND CANYON
Sophomore, Tuttle, Oklahoma/Tuttle HS
- Logged a 1-0 week, securing the win over Princeton (7-4) as well as a save over Notre Dame (5-4).
- Led the Lopes in the circle with 11.2 innings and posted an ERA of 1.20 after facing 26 batters.
- Tallied 11 strikeouts, allowing just two runs and nine hits.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
KATIE WETTELAND, NEVADA
Freshman, Third Base, Rocklin, California/Rocklin HS
- Helped the Wolf Pack to a 3-2 week with a pair of wins over Oregon State (7-5, 10-2) and one against Oregon (8-5).
- Through her 17 at-bats, registered a .647 batting average with 11 hits, including two home runs, eight runs and drove in seven RBIs.
- Recorded an on-base percentage of .700 and slugged at a 1.235 clip.
- Defensively, notched nine putouts and six assists.
