Cathedral City, Calif. — Nevada delivered a strong showing on Day Two of the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic on Friday, opening the morning with an 8–3 win over Cal before pushing No. 11/6 UCLA to the final outs in a 6-5 thriller at Big League Dreams.

The Pack started the game with five runs in the first inning and then added three more in the second inning to seize control early. The offense had 13 hits, highlighted by multi-hit efforts from Maddie Clark, Lexi O’Gorman, and Hannah Di Genova.
Talia Tretton highlighted the first winning with a three-run home run as the Pack took control. The Wolf Pack kept its foot on the gas by stealing four bases.
In the circle, Hailey McLean worked the first four innings before Tretton returned to close the door, tossing three scoreless frames to secure the win.

Nevada carried that momentum into the afternoon going toe‑to‑toe with a nationally-ranked UCLA squad in a one‑run battle.
The Pack struck early again, scoring in the first and third innings. The fifth inning was where Nevada extended its lead with three runs to make it 5-2. Lexi O’Gorman had a solo home run, Katie Wetteland had a three-hit performance, and Saige Alfaro drove in two runs.
Haylee Engelbrecht sparked a late push with a pair of hits and two stolen bases in the sixth.
UCLA answered with a three‑run fifth of its own and added the go‑ahead run in the sixth.
Tretton delivered 4.2 competitive innings with five strikeouts, while Tess Bumiller battled through the final stretch against one of the nation’s most potent lineups.
Despite the narrow loss, Nevada’s performance showcased its ability to compete with top‑15 opponents on the national stage.
Nevada (7-7) concludes play at the Mary Nutter Classic tomorrow, taking on UC Riverside at 10 a.m.
