COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV junior Mason Snyder was tabbed the Mountain West Men’s Golfer of the Week, while New Mexico’s Emil Albers collected the MW Men’s Freshman of the Week nod. On the women’s side, Grand Canyon freshman Alexis Vakasiuola picked up the MW Women’s Golfer and Freshman of the Week honors.
MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK
MASON SNYDER, UNLV
Junior, Las Vegas, Nevada/Palo Verde HS
- Led the Rebels to a runner-up tie at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, where they recorded a five-under par team score, finishing above three top 25 teams, including No. 19 New Mexico, No. 22 San Diego State and No. 23 Utah.
- The Las Vegas native registered a six-under par to tie for third in a field of 111 golfers.
- Tallied a total score of 204 (68-67-69) across the event.
- His three under par, 67, in the second round tied for the lowest round of the tournament.
MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
EMIL ALBERS, NEW MEXICO
Hamburg, Germany
- Helped the Lobos to a fourth-place finish at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate in a field of 19 teams.
- Finished tied for 18th out of 111 competitors with a one over par and a 211 score across the three rounds (69-71-71).
WOMEN’S GOLFER & FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ALEXIS VAKASIUOLA, GRAND CANYON
Freshman, San Tan Valley, Arizona/Combs HS
- Earned a runner-up finish at the Alice and John Wallace Women’s Classic with a total score of 207 (67-73-67), six under par in a field of 96 competitors.
- Shot a season-low 54-hole score of 207.
- Registered 12 birdies over her three rounds, five in the first and third rounds each.
- During her final 27 holes of golf, logged six birdies to only one bogey.
- The Arizona native finished top five among the field in par 3, par 4 and 5 average scoring, tied for first in par 3 and had the second most birdies among the field, 12.
