Goleta, Calif. — Led by Luke Cushman and Cole Rueck, who shot a combined 17-under par, Boise State capped off its win at the UC Santa Barbara Gaucho Invitational on Tuesday.The collective performance marks the team’s first top finish in either the fall or spring season. Prior to the Gaucho Invitational, the Broncos placed third or higher on four occasions this year.
As a team, Boise State shot 841 (-23) and concluded the tournament 21 strokes ahead of second-place University of Denver. Four of the five participating Broncos shot under par, with four posting top-10 finishes.
The last time Boise State shot at least 20-under par was during the 2021-22 academic year. In the Ka’anapali Intercollegiate on Oct. 29-31, 2021, the team notched a third-place finish (824, -28).
Claiming victory for the first time in his career, Cushman fired a 207 (-9), his lowest total as a collegiate student athlete. He now has four top-25 finishes in his career, including three in the top 10.
Rueck jumped two spots from Day 1 and shot 8-under for second place. Adding to his two top finishes this spring, Rueck has registered top-10 placement in three of the five spring events.
Ending a tournament in the top 10 for just the second time in the Blue and Orange, Ryan Meyer rose four spots from Monday and was tied for eighth (214, -2). Freshman Reese Knox collected his first top-25 finish and ended the 54-hole event 1-under (215) and tied for 10th.
The Broncos will conclude the regular season on April 14-15 in the 2nd Annual Battle of Idaho. The Broncos will compete against the University of Idaho at Hillcrest Golf Course in Boise.
