BUENOS AIRES, Argentina — San Diego State senior men’s golfer Justin Hastings (Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands) won the 2025 Latin American Amateur Championship on Saturday at the par-72, 7,308-yard Pilar Golf Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina. With the victory, Hastings receives an invitation to compete in the 2025 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club and exemptions into The Open and the U.S. Open.

Hastings carded an even-par 72 in Saturday’s final round and finished his four rounds at 16-under 272, one shot ahead of Peru’s Patrick Sparks (-15). Hastings opened with a 71 on Thursday and then followed with a 65 in Friday’s second round. Hastings began his final day today with a 64  this morning before shooting the aforementioned 72 in the final round this afternoon.

With the win, Hastings also receives full exemptions into The Amateur Championship, U.S. Amateur Championship and any other USGA amateur championship for which he is eligible. Hastings beat out a 108-player field comprised of the top male amateurs in Latin America representing the 29 IOC-recognized countries and territories from this region that are current members of the International Golf Federation.

Hastings, the 52nd-ranked amateur in the latest World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) and 20th in the latest PGA TOUR University Rankings, is tied for the team lead this season through four tournaments and 12 rounds in scoring average (71.67), rounds below par (5) and even-par rounds (2). His career scoring average of 71.48 is the lowest in recorded program history (since at least 1993-94), just ahead of Xander Schauffele’s 71.50 set from 2013-15.

San Diego State officially kicks off its spring campaign, Jan. 27-29, at the Southwestern Invitational at Sherwood Country Club in Lake Sherwood, California.
