COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV graduate student Chinyere Okoro has been named the Mountain West Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Nevada senior Emily Poole was tabbed the MW Women’s Field Athlete of the Week and UNLV’s Kaelin Gowdy has been named the MW Women’s Track & Field Freshman of the Week.

There were no MW Men’s Track and Field selections this week.

WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK 
CHINYERE OKORO, UNLV
Graduate Student, Pleasanton, California/UCLA

  • Placed second in the 100-meter dash at the Arizona Spring Break Fiesta with a time of 11.64.
  • Mark in the 100m is the fastest time in the Mountain West this season.
  • Helped the 4×100-meter relay to a third-place finish (44.39) and the 4×400-meter relay to a 10th-place finish (3:57.72).

 

WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK 
EMILY POOLE, NEVADA
Senior, Billings, Montana/North Dakota

  • Placed second in the javelin with a throw of 46.24 meters at the Hornet Invitational.
  • Personal-best throw to open the season ranks sixth in the Mountain Region and third in the MW.

 

WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK 
KAELIN GOWDY, UNLV
Las Vegas, Nevada/Adelson School

  • Placed 11th in the 400-meter dash, clocking a personal-best time of 56.31 at the Arizona Spring Break Fiesta.
  • Mark is the third-fastest time in the MW this season.
  • Finished 27th in the 200-meter dash, recording a career-best time of 24.94.
  • Helped the 4x400m relay to fourth-place finish with a time of 3:44.66.
