COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State (31-15, 16-5 MW) will be the top seed in the 2023 Mountain West Softball Championship, which is being hosted for the first time since 2006. The Broncos, which won the league’s regular-season crown on Friday, May 5, will head to SDSU Softball Stadium in San Diego with a 16-5 Conference record.
San Diego State (32-15, 16-6 MW) earned the No. 2 seed, while Colorado State (27-19, 11-10 MW) and San José State (23-26, 11-11 MW) are the No. 3 and 4 seeds, respectively. The last two teams in the tournament are No. 5 Fresno State (23-30, 10-12 MW) and No. 6 Nevada (30-17, 10-12 MW).
The six-team championship will feature two single-elimination games to open the tournament on Thursday, May 11, before shifting to double elimination for the remainder of the event, concluding with the championship game on Saturday, May 13, with a built in if-necessary game on that same day.
The opening day of the three-day Championship will consist of four games as the Spartans and Bulldogs faceoff in the first contest of the day at 10 a.m. PT. The Rams and Wolf Pack will meet for the fourth-consecutive time at 12:30 p.m. PT. No. 1 Boise State, which was voted the league favorite in pre-season, is set to face the winner of Game 1 between San José State and Fresno State at 4 p.m. PT.
San Diego State will play the winner of game two between Colorado State and Nevada at 6:30 p.m. PT.
Day two, May 12, features a round of three-games. Game five, between the winners of games three and four is at Noon PT and the winner of this contest will advance to the Championship. Game six, between the losers of games three and four, will be played at 3 p.m. PT and that winner will face the loser of game five (6 p.m. PT).
The final day, May 13, the Mountain West will crown a tournament champion for the first time since 2006 as the championship contest will begin at Noon PT with an if-necessary game to follow in the event that the winner of game five should lose.
