COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – San Diego State sophomore Mac Barbara has been tabbed the Mountain West Softball Player of the Week, while Utah State’s Hailey McLean has been named MW Softball Pitcher and Freshman of the Week.
This is Barbara and McLean’s third career MW weekly honor.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MAC BARBARA, SAN DIEGO STATE
Sophomore, INF/DP, Long Beach, California/Saint Joseph HS
- Led the Aztecs to a 3-1 record sweeping UNLV (6-0 and 5-1, while splitting the series with Nevada (10-1 in 6 innings and 2-7).
- Batted .600 (6-for10) with two home runs, four RBIs, and three runs.
- Posted a slugging percentage of 1.200 and a .714 on-base percentage.
- Also logged four walks and one stolen base.
PITCHER/FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
HAILEY MCLEAN, UTAH STATE
Freshman, RHP, Sparks, Nevada/Spanish Springs HS
- Earned both of Utah Stat’s victories on the week against Colorado State (6-0) and Fresno State (8-2).
- Logged a team-best 1.17 ERA after pitching a team-high 15.1 innings.
- Recorded a team-high 21 strikeouts and held opponents to a .193 batting average.
- Did not give up a single run in either of the Aggies two wins.
- Pitched a complete-game shutout over the Rams, recording 12 strikeouts, giving up only three hits in seven innings of work.
- Came in as relief in the win against the Bulldogs, striking out seven batters in 5.2 innings in the circle.
