COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico swept the Mountain West Outdoor Women’s Track & Field weekly awards with Taniya Looney named the Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, Ajia Hughes selected as the Women’s Field Athlete of the Week and Eva Ngom named the Women’s Freshman of the Week. This is the second outdoor nod of the season for Looney and Ngom.

On the men’s side, Utah State’s Ayodele Ojo was named the MW Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for the second time across the indoor and outdoor seasons, while teammate Javin Richards picked up MW Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors for the first time this year. Air Force’s Zachary DeWalt was selected as the MW Men’s Freshman of the Week for a fourth time overall and third time during the outdoor campaign.

WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
TANIYA LOONEY, NEW MEXICO
Junior, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma/Pittsburg State

  • Clocked the fastest 100-meter and 200-meter performances in the Mountain West this season on the same day at the Arizona Desert Heat Classic (Tucson, Arizona).
  • Broke her own New Mexico record and finished third in the 100-meter with a wind-legal personal-best of 11.18, with the time ranking top 30 in the nation.
  • Added a fourth-place finish in the 200-meter with a time of 23.16.

WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
AJIA HUGHES, NEW MEXICO
Senior, Cloudcroft, New Mexico/Southern Utah

  • Won the high jump at the Arizona Desert Heat Classic with a season-best mark, clearing 1.83 meters (6.0-0.0).
  • Broke the New Mexico program record that had stood since 2021.
  • The performance currently ranks No. 2 in the Mountain West and No. 13 in the nation.

WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
EVA NGOM, NEW MEXICO
Freshman, Katy, Texas/Taylor HS 

  • Won the Arizona Desert Heat Classic 400-meter race with a time of 51.83, setting a personal record for the third consecutive race.
  • Became the first woman from New Mexico to run below the 52-second barrier and holds sole possession of the Lobos’ program record.
  • Currently leads the Mountain West in the women’s 400-meter and ranks No. 32 in the nation.

MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
AYODELE OJO, UTAH STATE
Sophomore, Waxahachie, Texas/Waxahachie HS

  • Won the 100-meter dash at the BYU Robison Invitational (Provo, Utah) with a wind-aided time of 9.90.
  • Recorded the third-fastest all-conditions 100-meter time of any American sprinter, pro or collegiate, in 2026.
  • Clocked a wind-legal 10.20 in the prelims, which altitude-adjusts to 10.23 to rank second in the Conference this season.

MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
JAVIN RICHARDS, UTAH STATE
Senior, Perry, Ohio/Perry HS

  • Won the decathlon at the BYU Robison Invitational with a personal-best score of 7,322 points.
  • The score ranks second in Utah State history, 30th in the nation, and leads the Conference by 674 points.
  • Set individual personal-bests in the shot put, 400-meters, discus, and javelin, while clearing 5.10 meters (16-8.75) in the pole vault to lead all competitors.

MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ZACHARY DEWALT, AIR FORCE
Freshman, Corpus Christi, Texas/USAFA Prep School

  • Clocked a career-best 400-meter time of 46.35 at the Doug Max Invitational (Fort Collins, Colorado) to move up to No. 4 all-time at Air Force.
  • Broke the program’s Freshman Class Record that had been held by Olympian Alonzo Babers since 1980.
  • Won the 200-meter dash in a Meet-Record time of 20.88 and is the top-ranked freshman in the Mountain West in the 400-meter.
