COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Grand Canyon’s Jada Cooper was tabbed the Mountain West Softball Player of the Week, while UNLV’s Yanina Sherwood collected the MW Softball Pitcher of the Week nod. New Mexico’s Arianna Capek was named MW Freshman of the Week.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JADA COOPER, GRAND CANYON
Sophomore, First Base, Houston, Texas/Westside HS

  • Led Grand Canyon to a series sweep over Colorado State, while helping the Lopes clinch the MW regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming 2026 CU1 MW Softball Championship.
  • Hit .667, including two home runs and at least one hit in each contest.
  • Slugged the go-ahead grand slam in last Friday’s game, a 9-7 victory.
  • Finished the three-game series with nine RBIs and four hits.
  • Was walked seven times last week.


PITCHER OF THE WEEK
YANINA SHERWOOD, UNLV
Sophomore, Mill Creek, Washington/Henry M. Jackson HS

  • Appeared in all three games in a series sweep of in-state rival Nevada, earning the No. 2 seed in the MW tournament.
  • In five innings of work, recorded a 0.00 ERA, collecting two saves and one win.
  • Only allowed one hit, while striking out four batters, including both final outs on Friday and Saturday.
  • Held the Wolf Pack to a .063 batting average.

FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ARIANNA CAPEK, NEW MEXICO
Freshman, Pitcher, Canyon Lake, Texas/Smithson Valley HS

  • Made two appearances in New Mexico’s three-game sweep over Utah State, earning the Lobos the No. 4 seed in the upcoming MW championship.
  • In 3.1 innings of work, struck out five, allowed just one hit and registered a 0.00 ERA.
  • In last Friday’s contest, earned the save.
  • In the series finale, entered in relief in the top of the sixth inning and retired all three batters, before retiring the first two batters in the top of the seventh.
