COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nevada’s Madison Clark was tabbed the Mountain West Softball Player of the Week while San Diego State’s Ava Schaffel was named the MW Softball Pitcher of the Week. Grand Canyon’s Abi Jones collected the MW Softball Freshman of the Week honor.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MADISON CLARK, NEVADA
Junior, Infielder/Outfielder, Jamestown, California/Calaveras HS
- Led the Wolf Pack to a 3-1 week with a win over Utah Valley (10-2) and 2-1 series record over San José State.
- Posted a .769 batting average on her 13 at-bats, logged a .800 on-base percentage and slugged at a clip of 1.385.
- Registered eight runs, 10 hits, one double, two triples, a home run and drove in seven RBIs.
- Also stole two bases on two attempts.
- Defensively, tallied eight putouts and three assists.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
AVA SCHAFFEL, SAN DIEGO STATE
Sophomore, Long Beach, California/Milikan HS
- Recorded a 1.45 ERA across 9.2 innings in the circle and logged a win against New Mexico.
- Faced 36 batters in her two appearances on the week and logged 87 strikes and five strikeouts.
- Only allowed two earned runs and four hits.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ABI JONES, GRAND CANYON
Freshman, Pitcher, Salinas, California/Salinas HS
- Helped the Lopes a 3-1 week, including a series sweep over Utah State to remain undefeated in Conference action.
- Registered a 1.83 ERA across 7.2 innings for Grand Canyon.
- Totaled 75 strikes and seven strikeouts against 30 batters.
