BOISE, Idaho – Boise State used a pair of big innings to post a 10-1 run-rule victory over Utah, Friday.
The Broncos (17-5) scored four times in the second and six in the fourth to account for their 10 runs.
“This was the most complete game we have played this season,” head coach Justin Shults said. “Our offense is very consistent and today we added good pitching and really solid defense.”
Senior Megan Lake started the scoring with a solo home run, her second long ball in two games. With two outs, Leah McAnally doubled and Chloe Hughes reached on an error to put runners on the corners.
Quinn Southerland drove in a run with a single and Sophia Knight tripled to plate two and put the Broncos on top 4-0.
The Utes (7-16) scored their lone run in the top of the fourth, but the Broncos responded in the bottom of the frame.
Hughes, Southerland and Knight singled to load and Mykenzie Hanna blasted a grand slam for an 8-1 lead. After Makenzie Butt walked, Sydney Groves belted a two-run home run to account for the final margin.
Abby Dowell (5-2) gave up one run in 3 2/3 innings to earn the victory and freshman Olivia Bauer recorded the final-four outs to pick up her first-career save.
The Broncos and Utes meet again, Saturday at noon.
