LOGAN, Utah – Utah State junior Logan Garnica is the recipient of the Elite 90 Award for the 2024 NCAA Division I Men’s Cross Country Championship, it was announced by the NCAA on Saturday.

The Elite 90, an award founded by the NCAA, recognizes the true essence of the student-athlete by honoring the individual who has reached the pinnacle of competition at the national championship level in his or her sport, while also achieving the highest academic standard among his or her peers. The Elite 90 is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA’s championships.

Garnica, majoring in human development and family studies, currently carries a 4.0 GPA. He was presented with the award during the post-race awards ceremony on Saturday morning in Madison, Wisconsin.

“Logan is a phenomenal student and athlete,” said Artie Gulden, USU’s director of track & field and cross country. “I am grateful for everything he does excelling in all walks of life.”

Garnica joins his teammate Camren Todd, who won the Elite 90 Award in 2020 and 2022, as the only Utah State athletes to ever win the award. USU has now claimed the award in each of their last three appearances at the NCAA Championships and is the first Division I cross country program, men’s or women’s, in the Elite 90’s 16-year history to win the award three times. Utah State is now tied with Wyoming for the most Elite 90 Awards won by a Mountain West institution.

Eligible student-athletes are sophomores or above academically who have participated in a sport for at least two years with their school. All ties are broken by the number of credits completed.
