MESA, Ariz. — No. 2 Washington State (29-25, 15-9 MW) defeated top-seeded San Diego State (34-23, 16-8 MW) 14–9 to advance to the title game of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Baseball Championship, played at Sloan Park in Mesa, Arizona.

San Diego State initially took a commanding lead by scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning. However, Washington State answered back decisively with eight runs on six hits in the top of the second inning, taking an 8-5 lead.

The Cougars further extended their lead with two runs in the third and four more in the fourth, capitalizing on 18 hits overall. The team showcased power with a home run and a triple among their four extra-base hits. Despite San Diego State’s efforts, including their early five-run outburst, the Cougars maintained their lead to secure the victory.

This was a stark contrast to San Diego State’s game on Friday against New Mexico, where the Aztecs came back from a 5-0 deficit.

Cougars second baseman Gavin Roy led the game with five RBIs on three hits. He also scored one run. On the mound, Washington State got another strong pitching performance as Luke Meyers pitched 7.0 innings with seven strikeouts and issued no walks. Saturday was Meyers’ fourth win of the season.

San Diego State will now face No. 3 seed Air Force in an elimination game on Saturday night at 6:05 p.m. MST. Washington State will await the winner with pitch scheduled for 12:05 p.m. MST on Sunday, May 24. The Cougars, who have yet to suffer a defeat in the MW tournament, will have two chances to earn the Conference title in the double-elimination format.
