COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Wyoming women’s soccer student-athlete Peyton Hunt has been named the Credit Union 1 Community Champion, recognizing her exceptional dedication to civic engagement, leadership, and service in Laramie, Wyoming.
CU1 will make a $500 donation in Hunt’s name to Realities for Children.
Hunt, a senior from Dallas, Texas, started 17 games as a defender for the Cowgirls last season, but her greatest impact was off the field through a series of community-driven initiatives that have supported children in Laramie.
She single-handedly spearheaded the creation of a peer mentoring initiative, the Lil Pokes Club, which connects UW student-athletes with students at Indian Paintbrush Elementary School. This program engages student-athletes from multiple teams, who volunteer multiple times per month with elementary students recommended by the school principal. The goal is to build supportive relationships and provide encouragement to children who may be facing challenges at home or socially at school.
Hunt’s passion for the program began in her youth, as she participated in a peer mentoring program as a mentee, which left a lasting impact on her life.
As SAAC President, a role she was elected to in the summer of 2025, Hunt also facilitated numerous additional events, including Read Across America, Border War Clothing Drive, the Halloween Trick-or-Treat event and the Green Dot Dodgeball Tournament.
The Credit Union 1 Community Champion Award is presented quarterly during the 2025-26 academic year and recognizes student-athletes who exceed expectations in their efforts to serve others, foster meaningful partnerships, and drive positive change. Hunt’s work stands as a model for what it means to be a leader both on and off the field.
