COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah State’s Jean-Baptiste Badon has been named the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week after leading the Aggies to a pair of wins that clinched a share of the regular-season title last weekend.
On the women’s side, Nevada’s Amahée Charrier was selected as the MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week and Utah State’s Terezia Mlkva earned the MW Women’s Freshman of the Week honor for the third time this season.
There was no selection for MW Men’s Freshman of the Week.
MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JEAN-BAPTISTE BADON, UTAH STATE
Senior, Los Angeles, California/Arkansas/Connections Academy
- Went 4-0 across singles and doubles play to lead Utah State to wins over San Diego State and Grand Canyon as the Aggies stayed unbeaten in Conference play.
- Playing at No. 1 singles all weekend, posted a pair of straight-set wins over the Aztecs’ and Lopes’ top player.
- Alongside teammate Dmitri Goubin, went 2-0 at the No. 2 doubles position, securing 6-2 wins in both matches to help clinch the doubles points.
WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
AMAHÉE CHARRIER, NEVADA
Senior, Chambray les-tours, France/French Touch Academy
- Finished the weekend undefeated across singles and doubles play, helping the Wolf Pack go 1-1 in Conference matches against Grand Canyon and San Diego State.
- Earned two victories at the No. 1 singles flight, which included a straight-sets win over the Aztecs’ No. 1.
- Contributed to two doubles wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions with the win against SDSU’s No. 2 doubles pair clinching the doubles point in the match.
WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
TEREZIA MLKVA, UTAH STATE
Freshman, Piestany, Slovakia/Gymnazium Pierra de Coubertina
- Led Utah State to a pair of Mountain West road victories over Fresno State and San José State.
- Clinched the team match against the Bulldogs with a three-set victory at the top singles flight.
- Battled back from a first-set tiebreak loss to beat the Spartans’ No. 1 in singles.
- Posted two wins at the No. 2 doubles position, helping the Aggies take the doubles point in both matches.
