COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – New Mexico’s Pamela Kosgei has been named the Mountain West Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Colorado State’s Klaire Kovatch and Air Force’s Arianna Valenzuela were named the MW Women’s Field Athlete of the Week and the MW Women’s Track & Field Freshman of the Week, respectively.

On the men’s side, New Mexico’s Habtom Samuel earned MW Men’s Track Athlete of the Week for the first time during the outdoor season and the third time overall this year. Boise State’s Raekwon Weatherspoon picked up MW Men’s Field Athlete of the Week honors and Air Force’s Zachary DeWalt was named the MW Men’s Track & Field Freshman of the Week, his second weekly honor during the 2025-26 academic year and first in outdoor.

WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
PAMELA KOSGEI, NEW MEXICO
Sophomore, Elgeyo-Marakwet County, Kenya/St. Agatha Mokpo Girls School

  • Recorded the second-fastest 10,000-meter time in collegiate history with a 30:49.99 at the Stanford Invitational (Stanford, California).
  • Finished second in the event as Kosgei and BYU’s Jane Hedengren both broke the previous collegiate record of 30:50.43.
  • The time set New Mexico and Mountain West records in the event, while it currently leads the Conference by nearly two minutes.
  • Now holds three of the top five fastest 10K times in collegiate history.

WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
KLAIRE KOVATCH, COLORADO STATE
Senior, Seeley Lake, Montana/Seeley Swan

  • Won the discus event at the Jerry Quiller Classic (Boulder, Colorado) with a career-best mark of 59.55 meters (195-04).
  • Her winning mark moved her to sixth all-time in the Colorado State record book.
  • Currently leads the Mountain West and ranks fifth in the NCAA in the discus this season.
  • Added a fourth-place finish in the shot put (13.22 meters/43-4.5).

WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ARIANNA VALENZUELA, AIR FORCE
Rio Rancho, New Mexico/Rio Rancho HS/USAFA Prep School

  • Broke the Air Force freshman class record in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.60 meters (166-0) at the Jerry Quiller Classic, which ranks 12th in Falcons’ history.
  • Recorded a career-best throw of 45.78 meters (150-2) in the discus to finish sixth out of 13 competitors.
  • Top-ranked freshman in the Mountain West in the hammer and ranked No. 3 among freshmen in the discus in 2026.

MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
HABTOM SAMUEL, NEW MEXICO
Junior, Keren, Eritrea/Al Selef Al Salih

  • Won the 10,000-meter race at the Stanford Invitational with a time of 27:30.51, the fastest in the nation this season.
  • His time is nearly eight seconds faster than the next best national mark and 28.8 seconds faster than the next Mountain West athlete.
  • Secured the win by closing with a 59.80-second final lap to distance himself from the field.
  • Named the USTFCCCA National DI Men’s Athlete of the Week for his performance for the fourth time in his career.

MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
RAEKWON WEATHERSPOON, BOISE STATE
Junior, Las Vegas, Nevada/Pima CC

  • Won the long jump at the UNLV Rebel Elite (Las Vegas, Nevada) with a mark of 7.78 meters (25-6.25).
  • The mark currently leads the Mountain West by 0.27 meters, is tied for 11th in the nation and ranks fourth all-time in Boise State history.
  • Also added a third-place finish in the 4x100m relay (40.34) and placed 10th in the 100m (10.65).

MEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ZACHARY DEWALT, AIR FORCE
Corpus Christi, Texas/Flour Bluff HS/USAFA Prep School

  • Clocked the 11th-fastest 200-meter dash time in Air Force history (21.08) to finish second as part of a 1-2-3 Falcons sweep in the event at Colorado’s Jerry Quiller Classic.
  • Is the top-ranked freshman in the Mountain West in the 200 meter and has the sixth-best time overall in the Conference.
  • Also ran on the winning 4×100-meter relay (40.44) and 4×400-meter relay (3:16.06) teams.
