COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah State sophomore Eliot Nobel has been selected as the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while fellow Aggie Jakub Medved is the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

On the women’s side, UNLV junior Nikol Mircheva earned MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors and New Mexico’s Yu Yun “Kathy” Tsai was tabbed MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ELIOT NOBEL, UTAH STATE
Sophomore, Stockholm, Sweden/Stockholms Idrottsgymnasium

  • Went 2-0 to help Utah State to a 5-2 win over Northern Arizona.
  • Earned a straight-sets win (6-2, 6-1) at the No. 3 singles spot.
  • Won at No. 1 doubles (6-2) with Jakub Medved against NAU’s top pair to clinch the doubles point.

MEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
JAKUB MEDVED, UTAH STATE
Banská Bystrica, Slovakia/ITF Juniors

  • Went a 2-0 in the Aggie’s 5-2 home dual win over Northern Arizona.
  • Earned a three-set win at the No. 5 singles spot (6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 1-0 (10-3)).
  • Teamed up with Eliot Nobel in the No. 1 doubles spot, winning 6-2 to secure the doubles point.

WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
NIKOL MIRCHEVA, UNLV
Junior, Frankfurt, Germany/Privatgymnasium Schwetzingen

  • Went a combined 6-0 in singles and doubles to help UNLV to a 3-0 record on the weekend with a trio of shutouts over Weber State, Utah Tech and Youngstown State.
  • Did not lose a single set while sweeping opponents at the No. 2 singles and No. 2 doubles spot with partner Hudson Hawkins.

WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
YU YUN “KATHY” TSAI, NEW MEXICO

  • In her dual match debut went 4-0 on the weekend to help New Mexico to a pair of wins over Western New Mexico and CSU Pueblo.
  • Went 2-0 in her singles matches in the No. 3 spot, notching a pair of straight set victories (6-1,6-0; 6-1, 6-1).
  • Playing at No. 2 doubles against Western New Mexico, clinched the doubles point for the Lobos.
  • Added a win at the No. 1 doubles spot (6-0) against CSU Pueblo.
