COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Fresno State junior Amelia Garibaldi has been tabbed the Mountain West Women’s Golfer of the Month for October, while Grand Canyon rookie Alexis Vakasiuola has been selected as the MW Freshman of the Month.

The monthly honors are the first for both athletes.

GOLFER OF THE MONTH
AMELIA GARIBALDI, FRESNO STATE
Junior, Stockton, California/Lodi HS
• In her only action of the month, fired a career-best 11-under-par 205 to share medalist honors at The Clash at Boulder Creek for her first collegiate win.
• Opened with a 1-under 71 in the first round, shot a 4-under 68 in the second round and capped the tournament with a career-low 6-under 66 to sit atop the 108-woman field.
• Tallied 14 birdies over 54 holes, including seven in the final round and six straight from holes 13-18.
• Recorded her second straight top-10 finish to close the fall season and helped the Bulldogs to a second straight top-10 team finish (seventh).

FRESHMAN OF THE MONTH
ALEXIS VAKASIUOLA, GRAND CANYON
Freshman, San Tan Valley, Arizona/Combs HS
• Averaged 72.0 strokes over six rounds in October, turning in four rounds of par or better and posting the Lopes’ top finish in both events.
• Opened the month at the Rainbow Wahine Invitational, where she tied for 26th in a competitive field featuring four nationally ranked teams in the top 35.
• Shot a 3-over-par 219 in Hawai‘i, sandwiching even-par 72s around a 3-over 75.
• Tied for sixth at The Clash at Boulder Creek, carding a 3-under 213 that was highlighted by a season-best 6-under 66 in round two that featured five birdies and an eagle.
• Helped Grand Canyon tie for fifth at The Clash at Boulder Creek, its best finish of the fall.
