COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Grand Canyon’s Bella Nunez was named the Old Trapper Mountain West Women’s Volleyball Offensive Player and Freshman of the Week, while Utah State’s Kendel Thompson tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week.

This is the second career MW weekly honor for Nunez and first for Thompson.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER/FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
BELLA NUNEZ, GRAND CANYON
Freshman, Setter/Opposite Hitter, El Paso, Texas/Americas HS

  • Led the Lopes to a 2-0 week with wins over UNLV (3-1) and New Mexico (3-0).
  • Averaged 3.14 kills, 5 assists and 3.29 digs per set for GCU.
  • At UNLV, tallied 21 assists, 11 kills with a hitting efficiency of .385, 11 digs, four blocks and one service ace.
  • Against New Mexico, recorded 14 assists, 12 digs, 11 kills and hit .429. Also contributed one block and one service ace.


DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
KENDEL THOMPSON, UTAH STATE
Junior, Libero, Idaho Falls, Idaho/Thunder Ridge HS

  • Guided the Aggies to a 2-0 week with road wins over at Wyoming (3-1) and Colorado State (3-0).
  • Averaged 4.86 digs per set and recorded a perfect reception mark through 31 attempts.
  • At Wyoming, notched 20 digs.
  • At Colorado State, registered 14 digs.
