LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Former UNLV offensive lineman Tiger Shanks on Tuesday night became the program’s highest-ever pick in the Canadian Football League Draft when he went in the first round (fifth overall) to the Montreal Alouettes.

Shanks, who was born in Vancouver, B.C., is only the sixth Rebel to ever appear in the CFL Draft and the first since offensive lineman Brett Boyko and running back Shaquille Murray-Lawrence both were drafted in 2015. Boyko was previously the highest CFL pick from UNLV when he went in the second round (14th overall).

Shanks, who is out of Lake Oswego, Oregon, tied the school record by starting 51 games in his career, primarily at right tackle. He entered his senior season as a member of both the Outland Trophy and Lombardi Award watch lists. While helping the 2024 Rebels to an 11-3 record and first-ever national ranking, the big blocker became the first-ever offensive lineman from UNLV to be named first team all-conference twice in a career, doing it in back-to-back seasons in the Mountain West.
