COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Utah State sophomore Mohammad Alkotop has been named the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Nevada’s Max Contet has been selected as the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.
On the women’s side, Boise State Sophomore Zdena Safarova earned the MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week nod, while Fresno State Paulina Montiel was tabbed the MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.
MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MOHAMMAD ALKOTOP, UTAH STATE
Sophomore, Amman, Jordan/Shukry Shasha HS
- Went undefeated in singles play at No. 2.
- Earned a straight-sets win over New Mexico’s Aditya Balsekar (6-2, 7-5).
- Delivered a dominant 6-1, 6-2 victory over Air Force to tie the match.
MEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MAX CONTET, NEVADA
Cagnes-sur-Mer, France/Centre national d’enseignement à distance
- Finished the week 3-1 overall, including a perfect 2-0 mark in singles.
- Helped secure the key doubles point and went on to clinch the match in a win over UNLV.
- Delivered a dominant singles performance against San Diego State winning in straight sets (6-2, 6-3).
WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ZDENA SAFAROVA, BOISE STATE
Sophomore, Prague, Czech Republic/Oklahoma
- Went 2-0 overall on the week, picking up wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 1 singles against Utah State.
- Safarova only dropped four games combined across both singles and doubles matches.
WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
PAULINA MONTIEL, FRESNO STATE
Apizaco, Tlaxcala/Technological de Monterrey
- Dominated play without dropping a single set against San José State.
- Went undefeated (1-0) in singles at No. 6 with a commanding (6-4, 6-4) victory.
- Contributed a crucial singles point in a team win over a higher-ranked conference opponent.
