RANCHO MIRAGE, Calif. – Defending champion San José State combined for a collective 5-over-par 293 Wednesday to claim a two-stroke lead over UNLV after 36 holes at the 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Women’s Golf Championship. The Spartans’ Lucia Lopez Ortega and the Rebels’ Toa Yokoyama share the individual lead with 18 holes to play.

The tournament is being contested on the par-72, 6,286-yard Dinah Shore Tournament Course at Mission Hills Country Club.

Battling extremely windy conditions, SJSU (+8, 584) put together the day’s best showing to turn a three-shot day-one deficit into a two-stroke advantage. Ortega, the day-one individual leader after posting a 3-under 69, carded a 1-over 73 in round two to sit at 2-under 142.

She’s joined atop the standings by Yokoyama, who enjoyed the day’s best individual round at 2-under 70 to move up four spots into a share of the lead.

Joining Ortega in the top 10 are Spartan teammates Moa Andersson, who’s tied for fourth at 1-over 145 after Wednesday’s 3-over 75, and Nicola Kaminski, who made the day’s biggest jump with a 1-under 71 to shoot up 21 spots into a tie for seventh at 4-over 148.

Yokoyama and Kaminski were the only players to shoot under par in round two.

UNLV (+10, 586) fired a 6-over 294 to move up one spot into second place in the team standings. Zi Yu Foong joins Yokoyama in the top 10 after turning in a 4-over 76 Wednesday. She is part of a four-way tie for seventh at 4-over 148.

Day-one leader Nevada (+15, 591) sits third after a 15-over 303 in round two. The Wolf Pack’s Anna Shultse is tied for fourth at 1-over 145 after a 3-over 75 on day two.

Colorado State maintained its fourth-place showing, turning in an 11-over 299 Wednesday for a 36-hole total of 18-over 594. CSU sophomore Kara Kaneshiro is alone in third place after Wednesday’s 1-over 73 and is at even par for the tournament.

New Mexico matched the Rams with an 11-over 299 in the second round and trails CSU by three strokes at 21-over 597. Chelsea Truong shot a 2-over 74 in round two and is in sixth place at 2-over 146.

Boise State (+23, 599) is sixth, with Teal Matsueda jumping seven spots into a tie for seventh with a 2-over 74. Fresno State’s Katelyn Lehigh rounds out the top 10, as she leapt five spots to join the tie for seventh on the strength of her 3-over 75.

The Bulldogs (+33, 609) are seventh, followed by San Diego State (+34, 610) and Wyoming (+38, 614).

Championship day tee times begin at 7 a.m. PT Thursday, with Fresno State, San Diego State and Wyoming paired together. Colorado State, New Mexico and Boise State begin teeing off at 7:45 a.m., followed by San José State, UNLV and Nevada beginning at 8:30. Live scoring is available at Scoreboard.clippd.com.
