COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force’s Taylor Rioux has been named the Mountain West Women’s Track Athlete of the Week, while Colorado State’s Kajsa Borrman and Annabella Palillian earned the MW Women’s Field Athlete of the Week and the Women’s Freshman of the Week honors, respectively.
On the men’s side, New Mexico’s Cam Watts garnered the MW Men’s Track Athlete of the Week award with Air Force’s Brayden Richards picking up both the MW Men’s Field Athlete and Freshman of the Week honors for the second time during his first collegiate campaign as he earned both during the indoor season on Feb. 11.
WOMEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
TAYLOR RIOUX, AIR FORCE
Senior, Austin, Texas/Lake Travis School
- Recorded a pair of second-place finishes in the 200-meter and 400-meter dashes at the Kit Mayer Classic.
- Broke the Air Force senior class record in the 400-meter behind a time of 54.89 and had a wind-aided time of 24.00 in the 200-meter.
- Helped the 4×100-meter relay team to a second-place finish with the second-fastest time in program history (46.93).
WOMEN’S FIELD ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
KAJSA BORRMAN, COLORADO STATE
Sophomore, Loveland, Colorado/ Loveland HS
- Won the hammer throw and placed third in the discus toss at the Kit Mayer Classic.
- Her mark of 67.27 meters (220-feet-8) in the hammer throw was a career-best.
- Became just the second athlete in program history to throw over 220 feet.
- Ranks No. 6 in the NCAA in the hammer throw overall.
WOMEN’S FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ANNABELLA PALILLIAN, COLORADO STATE
Freshman, Thorton, Colorado/Horizon HS
- Won the 100-meter hurdles at the Kit Mayer Classic was a personal-best time of 14.26.
- Ranks top among MW freshmen.
- Also competed in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:08.44.
MEN’S TRACK ATHLETE OF THE WEEK
CAM WATTS, NEW MEXICO
Senior, Tulsa, Oklahoma/Union HS/Texas Tech
- Won the 100-meter dash at the UTEP Sun City Classic with a time of 10.21 (10.24 adjusted) to set a new UNM program record.
- Top 100-meter time in the MW this season.
- Also helped the Lobo 4×100 relay team to a first-place finish with a time of 40.23, which ranks third-fastest in program history and fifth-fastest in the MW during the outdoor season.
MEN’S FIELD ATHLETE & FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
BRAYDEN RICHARDS, AIR FORCE
Freshman, Perry, Ohio/ Perry HS
- In his collegiate outdoor debut in the decathlon, won the “A” section of the Bryan Clay Multis, scoring 7,655 points.
- It marked the second-best total in Air Force history, while it was the program’s best decathlon in 29 years.
- The total was also the third-best in Mountain West history.
- Leads MW in decathlon by more than 500 points, is the NCAA’s top-ranked freshman and ranks No. 6 in the country overall.
