COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force junior Phillip Deaton has been named the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while UNLV’s Ilia Snitari has been tabbed the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

On the women’s side, San Deigo State senior Yasmine Kabbaj earned the MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week nod, while Boise State Maya Dutta was tabbed the MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

 

MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
PHILLIP DEATON, AIR FORCE
Junior, Seattle, Washington/Bellarmine Prep

  • Posted a 3-1 record to lead Air Force to a perfect 2-0 week with back-to-back 4-3 victories over Omaha and No. 65 New Mexico.
  • Went 1-1 against Omaha, including a straight-sets win at No. 1 singles.
  • Delivered a 2-0 performance against No. 65 New Mexico, helping Air Force earn its first win over the Lobos in 20 years.
  • Clinched the doubles point with a 7-6 (7-3) win at No. 2 and followed with a hard-fought three-set victory at No. 1 singles, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4.

 

MEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ILIA SNITARI, UNLV
Kishinev, Moldova/Gloria Sports Theoretical Lyceum

  • Went undefeated on the weekend without dropping a set while competing at No. 1 singles and doubles.
  • Posted a 3-0 combined record (with one match halted) against Boise State and Utah State.
  • Earned a straight-sets win over a then-No. 120 ranked opponent from Boise State in singles play.
  • Was leading the 75th-ranked Boise State doubles team when the match was halted.

 

WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
YASMINE KABBAJ, SAN DIEGO STATE
Senior, Fes, Morocco/Florida International

  • Went undefeated in singles and doubles to lead the Aztecs to a road sweep over Fresno State and San Jose State.
  • Won both singles matches in straight sets while competing at the top spot.
  • Clinched the shutout victory over Fresno State and played a pivotal role in handing San José State its first conference loss of the season.

 

WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MAYA DUTTA, BOISE STATE
Dallas, Texas/University Prep

  • Went undefeated at No. 1 doubles and No. 2 singles against Colorado State and Wyoming.
  • Won both singles matches in straight sets without dropping more than four games in any set (6-4, 6-2) and (6-3, 6-2).
  • Played a key role in securing two 4-0 sweeps on the week.
