COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV senior Mayumi Umezu has been named the Mountain West Women’s Golfer of the Week, while New Mexico’s Maria Garcia is the MW Women’s Golf Freshman of the Week selection.
The weekly honor is the first of Umezu’s career and the fourth for Garcia.

MAYUMI UMEZU, UNLV
Senior, Waimea, Hawai‘i/Club Med Academies
- Finished second in the 91-player field at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic at AK-Chin Southern Dunes in Maricopa, Arizona.
- Shot a 1-under-par 215, improving her score in each round and capping the event with a 2-under 70.
- Shot an even-par 72 in round two after opening with a 1-over 73.
- Helped UNLV to a second-place finish in the 15-team field, marking the Rebels’ sixth top-two showing of the 2024-25 regular season.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MARIA GARCIA, NEW MEXICO
Queretaro, Mexico/Prepa Anahuac Queretaro
- Tied for 27th at the PING/ASU Invitational at Papago Golf Course in Phoenix, Arizona.
- Shot a 2-over 218 over 54 holes, opening with an even-par 72 before recording 1-over 73s in rounds two and three.
- Her first round was her team-best 10th round of par or better this season.
- Was New Mexico’s top finisher, helping the Lobos finish eighth in a 13-team field that included six teams ranked inside the top 50 nationally and four in the top 25.
