COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – UNLV Freshman Ilia Snitari earned the MW Men’s Tennis Player of the Week and Freshman of the Week honors.

On the women’s side, UNLV senior Coco Zhao earned the MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week nod, while Boise State Maya Dutta was tabbed the MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

 

MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER/FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
ILIA SNITARI, UNLV
Kishinev, Moldova/ Gloria Sports Theoretical Lyceum

  • Ilia went undefeated in singles and doubles in his collegiate debut.
  • In his first match at No. 52 Utah, he led the No. 97-ranked player before his opponent retired, securing the victory.
  • Was one game away from a ranked doubles win when the match was halted.
  • Against No. 75 Wichita State, bounced back from a first-set loss at No. 1 singles to power through for the win, helping the Rebels pull off the upset.
  • Teamed with Illia Maksymchuk at the top doubles spot to dominate their opponents with a 6-0 shutout.

 

WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
COCO ZHAO, UNLV
Senior, Harbin, China/Bin Zhou Sports School

  • Went a perfect 4-0 in singles and doubles to help UNLV secure two MW victories.
  • Did not drop a set in any match throughout the week.
  • Partnered with Cindy Hu at No. 2 doubles to earn a 7-5 win against UNM, clinching the doubles point for the Rebels on Sunday.

 

WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MAYA DUTTA, BOISE STATE
Dallas, Texas/University Prep

  • Went undefeated in No. 1 doubles and posted a 1-1 record at No. 2 singles over the weekend.
  • Secured a straight-set victory against UNLV, contributing one of the Broncos’ two team points.
