COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Air Force senior Arjun Kersten has been named the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while San Diego State’s Paul Janson has been tabbed the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.
On the women’s side, Boise State sophomore Zdena Safarova earned the MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week nod, while UNLV’s Veronika Kliuch was tabbed the MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.
MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ARJUN KERSTEN, AIR FORCE
Senior, Plano, Texas/Plano West Senior HS
- Went 3-0 on the week to help lead Air Force to wins over Marist (4-0) and Idaho State (4-1).
- Earned victories at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles against Marist, securing key points for the Falcons.
- Clinched the win over Idaho State with a strong performance at No. 2 singles.
MEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
PAUL JANSON, SAN DIEGO STATE
Munich, Germany
- Earned a hard-fought singles victory over Idaho at the No. 6 position, rallying for a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-4) win.
- Partnered with Liam Spiers at No. 2 doubles against Idaho, with the match going unfinished at 5-5.
WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ZDENA SAFAROVA, BOISE STATE
Sophomore, Prague, Czech Republic/Oklahoma
- Went 2-0 in singles play over the weekend, including a victory over No. 111 Cheuk Ying Shek of San José State.
- Secured wins at No. 1 singles and doubles to help Boise State defeat No. 72 Fresno State.
- Was the only Bronco to earn singles wins against both opponents.
WOMEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
VERONIKA KLIUCH, UNLV
Lviv, Ukraine/Optima School
- Recorded a perfect 2-0 mark on the week, competing at No 2 singles.
- Dominated in singles play, securing straight-sets victories over Air Force (6-2, 6-0) and Richmond (6-2, 6-4).
