COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Boise State’s Sydney Groves was selected as the Mountain West Softball Player of the Week while, Nevada’s Hailey McLean was tabbed the MW Pitcher of the Week. Boise State’s Makenzie Butt was named the MW Freshman of the Week nod.
This is Butt’s second weekly honor and the first for Groves and McLean on the 2025 season.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SYDNEY GROVES, BOISE STATE
Junior, Infielder, Meridian, Idaho/Eagle HS
- Led the Broncos to a 3-2 week with wins over UTSA (8-2), Le Moyne (13-5), Le Moyne (13-4) and two losses to Houston (9-8) and (15-11).
- Recorded six runs, seven hits, 13 RBIs and four home runs in 15 at-bats.
- Posted a .467 batting average, a .500 on-base percentage and a 1.267 slugging percentage.
- Defensively, tallied six putouts and two assists for the Blue and Orange.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK
HAILEY MCLEAN, NEVADA
Junior, Sparks, Nevada/Utah State
- Pitched in three of the Wolf Pack’s five games as Nevada went 5-0 on the week.
- Went 2-0 with a save.
- In 11 innings in the circle, notched a 1.27 ERA with 11 strikeouts.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
MAKENZIE BUTT, BOISE STATE
First Base, Garden Grove, California/Fountain Valley HS
- Helped the Broncos to a 3-2 week.
- Registered a .533 batting average, a .650 on-base percentage and a 1.333 slugging percentage.
- Logged seven runs, 13 RBIs, eight hits and three home runs in 15 at-bats.
- Defensively, had 39 putouts and two assists.
