COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. –Boise State senior Jett Middleton has been named the Mountain West Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while UNLV’s Kemal Karakas has been tabbed the MW Men’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

On the women’s side, Boise State Sophomore Zdena Safarova earned the MW Women’s Tennis Player of the Week nod, while Bronco teammate Maya Dutta was tabbed the MW Women’s Tennis Freshman of the Week.

 

MEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
JETT MIDDLETON, BOISE STATE
Senior, Columbine Valley, Colorado/Arizona

  • Posted a 2-0 combined record in singles and doubles.
  • In singles against No. 5 Virginia, Middleton defeated Dietrich (No. 57 nationally) with a commanding 4-6, 6-1, 6-1 performance.
  • Held a 4-3 lead over No. 5 Virginia’s 92nd-ranked doubles team before the match was halted.

 

MEN’S TENNIS FRESHMAN OF THE
KEMAL KARAKAS, UNLV
Izmir, Turkey/ Esenkent Okyanus Anatolian HS

  • Recorded a combined record of 8-0 on the week, going 4-0 in singles and 4-0 in doubles.
  • Posted a perfect 3-0 combined record at the No. 1 position in doubles over the weekend.
  • Outscored opponents by a combined 24-3 margin in doubles play.

 

WOMEN’S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
ZDENA SAFAROVA, BOISE STATE
Sophomore, Prague, Czech Republic/Oklahoma

  • Went undefeated over the weekend with a 3-0 record across singles and doubles at the No. 1 position.
  • Earned straight-set wins at No. 1 singles over Idaho State (6-4, 6-2) and Gonzaga (7-6(4), 6-0)

MAYA DUTTA, BOISE STATE
Dallas, Texas/University Prep

  • Recorded a perfect 3-0 mark on the week in both the No. 2 singles and No. 1 doubles positions.
  • Went 24-2 in singles at the No. 2 position.
  • Only registered three losses between both singles and doubles matches, with one unfinished match.
  • Posted straight-set victories at No. 2 singles against Idaho State (6-1, 6-0) and Gonzaga (6-0, 6-1).
