COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Mountain West announced on Tuesday morning the 2024 Women’s Volleyball All-Conference honors and individual awards as voted on by the league’s head coaches.

Colorado State’s Malaya Jones was tabbed the Mountain West Women’s Volleyball Player of the Year. Boise State’s Kiki Remensperger collected the Freshman of the Year award and San Diego State’s Shea Rubright garnered the Newcomer of the Year honor. Colorado State head coach Emily Kohan was named the Coach of the Year after leading the Rams to a 14-4 Conference record as well as the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed to the Credit Union 1 Mountain West Women’s Volleyball Championship.

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

MALAYA JONES, COLORADO STATE

Senior, Opposite, Santa Ana, California/USC

  • Earned three Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week honors during the 2024 season.
  • Recorded 326 kills on a .330 hitting efficiency, 370 points, 44 blocks, 160 digs, 20 service aces and 19 assists for the Rams in MW action.
  • Averaged 4.66 kills, 2.29 digs and 5.29 points per set.
  • Earned the Rams’ 16th MW Player of the Year honor and the first since 2019 (Katie Oleksak).
  • Led the Green and Gold to their 17th regular-season title and their 14th MW tournament appearance and seventh No. 1 seed.

 

FRESHMAN OF THE YEAR

KIKI REMENSPERGER, BOISE STATE

Setter/Outside, San Diego, California/Poway HS

  • The rookie garnered four MW Freshman of the Week honors as well one Defensive Player of the Week nod.
  • Assisted the Broncos to their fourth appearance in the Conference tournament and third consecutive since the event was brought back in 2021.
  • Is the first Bronco to earn the honor since 2021, when senior teammate Paige Bartsch was tabbed the Freshman of the Year, and the fifth overall since Boise State joined the league.
  • Averaged 5.12 assists, 3.08 digs, 1.27 kills and 0.52 blocks per set on the season.
  • Logged a total of 338 assists, 84 kills, 203 digs, 34 blocks and 120 service aces during Conference action.

 

NEWCOMER OF THE YEAR

SHEA RUBRIGHT, SAN DIEGO STATE

 Graduate, Middle Blocker, Spokane, Washington/Washington State

  • The transfer registered 152 kills, 218.5 points, 84 blocks, 44 digs, 18 service aces and 10 assists across 71 sets during league play as an Aztec.
  • Is the second Aztec to collect the MW Newcomer of the Year honor and first since 2012.
  • Guided the Aztecs to their 12th MW tournament appearance.

 

COACH OF THE YEAR

EMILY KOHAN, COLORADO STATE

  • Led the Rams to a 14-4 league record.
  • Coached the Green and Gold to a Mountain West regular-season title.
  • Claimed Colorado State’s 13th MW Coach of the Year award and the first since Kohan’s mentor and predecessor Tom Hilbert earned the honor in 2019.
