COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Colorado State’s Malaya Jones has been tabbed the Mountain West Offensive Player of the Week, Wyoming’s Sarah Holcomb was named the MW Defensive Player of the Week and San Diego State’s Gianna Bender collected the final MW Freshman of the Week nod.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
MALAYA JONES, COLORADO STATE
Senior, Opposite, Santa Ana, California/USC
- Led the Rams to a 2-0 week with wins over Nevada (3-0) and Utah State (3-10), securing Colorado State the regular-season title as well as a No. 1 seed in the 2024 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Women’s Volleyball Championship.
- Averaged 5.57 kills, 1.43 digs and 1.14 blocks per set and logged a hitting percentage of .471 for the Green and Gold.
- Against the Wolf Pack, recorded 18 kills, a .485 hitting efficiency, five digs, three service aces, two assists and one block.
- Against the Aggies, tallied 21 kills on a .457 hitting efficiency, seven blocks, five digs, one assist and one service ace.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
SARAH HOLCOMB, WYOMING
Junior, Middle Blocker, Dallas, Texas/Plano East HS
- Defended the net for the Cowgirls in a 1-1 week with a loss to Utah State (2-3) and a win over Nevada (3-2) to close out regular-season play.
- Averaged 2.4 blocks per set and logged a total of 24 blocks for the Brown and Gold.
- Against the Aggies, logged 10 blocks.
- Against the Wolf Pack, collected 14 blocks.
FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
GIANNA BENDER, SAN DIEGO STATE
Libero, Hudsonville, Michigan/Hudsonville HS
- Helped the Aztecs to a 2-0 week with a pair of sweeps over New Mexico and Air Force.
- Averaged 2.33 assists and 2.83 digs per set.
- Against New Mexico, registered eight assists, seven digs, and one service ace.
- Against Air Force, logged 10 digs, six assists, and three service aces.
