LOGAN, Utah – Utah State’s cross country teams competed at meets across the country on Friday and Saturday, with the men’s team toppling several nationally-ranked opponents at the 2024 Wisconsin Pre-Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin, on Saturday and the women’s team putting together impressive team performances at both the Princeton Fall Classic in Princeton, New Jersey, on Friday and the 2024 Wisconsin Pre-Nationals on Saturday.
The men’s team, led by graduate Camren Todd’s 17th-place finishing time of 23:10.1, finished in 11th place out of 32 teams in the Men’s A 8K race with 407 points. The Aggies, currently ranked No. 30 in the nation, bested eight ranked opponents and finished only behind other nationally-ranked squads. No. 3 Arkansas won the team title with 89 points.
Graduate Spencer Nelson was the Aggies’ second-highest finisher, placing 46th with a time of 23:28.2. Junior LJ Floyd finished in 87th place, clocking in at 23:46.5, and freshman Joshua McKee followed him in 97th place with a time of 23:52.7. Freshman Jedidiah Megargel finished out the Utah State scorers with a 163rd-place finishing time of 24:23.9.
Utah State’s women’s team started off the weekend with a seventh-place team finish out of 22 schools in the 6K race at the Princeton Fall Classic on Friday, accumulating 185 team points. The Aggies topped runners from No. 23 Syracuse while competing well with five nationally-ranked opponents, all of whom finished in the top five. No. 9 Georgetown won the team title with 59 points, edging out No. 10 Providence by six points.
Senior Emma Thornley led the Aggies with a 16th-place finish, clocking in at 20:09.5. Sophomore Shelby Jensen followed her in 28th place, finishing in 20:20.5. Senior Ana Weaver was USU’s third scorer, finishing in 36th place with a time of 20:31.3. Senior Mimi Miyazawa claimed 50th place with a time of 20:45.1, and senior Hannah Davidson rounded out the scoring with a 59th-place time of 20:51.2.
Another contingent of USU women competed in the Women’s B 6K race at the 2024 Wisconsin Pre-Nationals, claiming 14th place out of 29 teams with 376 points. Sophomore Natalie Swain led this corps of Aggies with a time of 21:37.6, good for 57th place. Freshman Ava Trimble came in 69th place, finishing in 21:45.0, followed closely by freshman Cailey Bracken in 73rd place with a time of 21:48.8. Sophomore Cameron Moore finished in just under 22 minutes at 21:57.3, good for 86th place. Senior Sammi Lee rounded out the Utah State scoring with her 91st-place finishing time of 22:01.0.
Utah State returns to action on Thursday, Oct. 25, when the Aggies travel to Salt Lake City, Utah, for the Utah Open, their final meet of the regular season.
