FAIRFAX, Calif. – Zubair Firdaus shot a 61 (-10) in his third round for a tournament record total 54-hole score of 129 (-23) to win the Individual Championship and lead San José State men’s golf to the Team Championship on the second and final day of the Alister MacKenzie Invitational at Meadow Club in Fairfax, Calif. on Tuesday.

  • The Spartans, as a team, shot 265 (-19) in their third round and set a tournament record with a total 54-hole score of 796 (-56) on their way to winning the team championship out of the 15 participating teams.
  • The Spartans team score of 796 (-56) is the lowest three-round total team score in SJSU program history. 
  • This is the first team tournament win for the Spartans since the 2019-20 season when they won the Visit Stockton Pacific Invitational.   
  • Firdaus shot a third-round score of 61 (-10) to finish with a 54-hole total score of 129 (-13). Firdaus’ three-round total set a tournament record and secured him the individual championship, finishing atop the 84-player leaderboard.  
  • Firdaus’s score of 61(-10) ties the lowest single-round score in SJSU program history with Sean Yu who shot a 61 at the same tournament in the 2019-20 season.
  • Firdaus had a bogey-free third round of play racking up eight birdies and one eagle.  
  • Firdaus finished second amongst the field with 22 birdies across three rounds of play and also finished third amongst the field of players with 2 eagles.
  • Firdaus finished second amongst the field with a score of (-12) on par 4s.
  • Keshav Mungali shot a third-round 66 (-5) to finish with a total 54-hole score of 195 (-18) and would finish the tournament tied for second on the player leaderboard.
  • Mungali finished in third amongst the field of players with 20 birdies made for the three-round tournament.
  • Mungali also finished third amongst the field of players with a score of (-10) on par 4s.
  • Jed Dy finished with a combined score of 204 (-9) after shooting a 69 (-2) in his third round. Dy would finis tied for 23rd on the player leaderboard.
  • Avinash Iyer shot a third-round score of 69 (-2) to finish with a total score of 207 (-6). Iyer would finish tied for 34th on the player leaderboard.
  • Ivan Barahona shot a 71 (E) in his third and final round to finish with a 54-hole score of 214 (+1).
  • Andreas Diogenous, competing as an individual, shot a third-round 74 (+3) for a three-round total score of 223 (+10).
  • The Spartans, as a team on day one, finished in second amongst the field on Par 3s (E ) and 5s (-34), averaging 3.00 strokes on Par 3s and 4.24 strokes on Par 5s. 
  • The Spartans were ranked second amongst the field in birdies made, with 74 for the three-round tournament. 

UP NEXT: The Spartans will rest and recharge for a few weeks before heading out to the Ka’anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational hosted by Hawai’i on Nov. 2-4 at Royal Ka’anapali Golf Course in Lahaina, Hawai’i.
