LOGAN, Utah – No. 12 Utah State soccer (12-0-2, 3-0-1 MW) continued its undefeated season and picked up three more points in Mountain West play with a 1-0 win over New Mexico Sunday afternoon at Chuck & Gloria Bell Field.

Despite offensive dominance by the Aggies, who totaled 25 shots on the day, it was penalty kick goal that made the difference in this one. In the 56th minute, a crossing ball by senior forward Bizzy Arevalo was deflected off the hand of a Lobo defender in front of the goal, resulting in a penalty kick. Senior midfielder Rine Yonaha stepped up to calmly deliver a right-footed shot into the bottom left corner of the net, the lone goal of the day for either side.

As a team, Utah State out-shot New Mexico 25-3 in the contest.

PENALTY KICK GOAL

UTAH STATE HEAD COACH MANNY MARTINS
“This was another opponent that made things very difficult, but I think we’re growing in being able to deal with opponents that come in with the strategy of keeping us from creating chances. We still were able to create chances, but in the end today it took being really clinical and the one PK, but we had quite a few other chances. But I’m happy we got another result.”
