EUGENE, Ore. – Marisa Howard has punched her ticket to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, France, by finishing third in the 3000-meter steeplechase final at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials, Thursday evening at Hayward Field.
Howard ran a personal best time of 9:07.14 to earn her spot on Team USA.
Howard is one of three athletes who will represent the U.S. in the 3000m steeplechase as she made her first Olympic team. She is the seventh Bronco and first female alum to earn a spot on the U.S. Track & Field Olympic Team. A Bronco has made each Summer Games dating back to 1988.
Howard was a three-time Mountain West champion, two-time All-American, and was the national runner-up in the 3000m steeplechase in 2014 during her time as a Bronco. Following her collegiate career, she ran in two Pan American Games, and brought home the silver medal in 2019. This will be Howard’s first Olympic appearance, having fallen two spots shy of earning a spot on Team USA in 2021.
The Paris Olympics begin on July 26, and the first round of the women’s 3000m steeplechase is set for Sunday, August 4.
