CARLSBAD, Calif. –– The New Mexico men’s golf team concluded its season Sunday with the third round of the 2024 NCAA Championship at the North Course of the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa. The Lobos shot 19-over during the third round to finish the tournament in 27th place at 48-over.
Bastien Amat had the low round of the day for New Mexico, shooting a 2-over 74 to finish T-51st at 7-over par. Albert Boneta finished one shot behind at 8-over, following a final round 76. Matthew Watkins and Carson Herron shot 78 and 79, respectively, during the third round, while Connor Adams rounded out the lineup with a final round 85.
“It was a brutal test of golf,” said head coach Jake Harrington. “We didn’t end the season the way we wanted to, but I am so proud of these guys. We had a phenomenal year. The guys, they took me in as a new coach, listened and learned something new. That is what is going to stick with me from this year. They could have left, but they stayed because they wanted to represent New Mexico and put together a special season.”
The NCAA Championship continues Monday with the top 15 teams that made the cut to play the final round of stroke play. The top eight teams after the fourth round will play match play Tuesday and Wednesday for the national championship.
