FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Colorado State track and field team had eight Rams compete in day two of the 2024 Outdoor NCAA West Regional. Thursday kicked off day one of competition for the women as Colorado State closed out the day punching three more tickets to the NCAA National Championship meet in Eugene, Oregon June 5-8.
Colorado State had two qualifiers in the women’s shot put in Mya Lesnar and Gabi Morris. Lesnar qualified second in the event with a mark of 18.68 meters and will return back to the national stage as she looks to defend her 2024 indoor shot put national title from earlier this season. Morris also clinched a spot in the women’s shot put final, qualifying third with a career best mark of 18.19 meters. The mark moves mores up to second all time in the CSU record book, following only Lesnar.
In the final event of the evening, the woman’s 10,000 meter run, Sarah Carter clinched her ticket to the national championship meet for the second consecutive year finishing tenth with a time of 34:21.81. Carter now joins the group of qualifying Rams as the only track athlete so far in this regional.
Other participants on day two of the NCAA West Regional include red shirt freshman Kajsa Borrman, who competed in the woman’s hammer throw, finishing 16th with a mark of 59.75 meters.
On the track, senior Anna Petr finished just one spot out of qualifying for the women’s 1500 meter finals, finishing 25th with a time of 4:22.36. Petr finishes her career as the CSU record holder in the women’s 1500 meter, which she achieved two weeks ago at the 2024 Outdoor Mountain West Championship meet.
Also just missing out on preliminary qualification was senior Quinn McConnell, who finished 20th in the women’s 800 meter with a time of 2:06.99. In the women’s 800, the top three athletes from each heat plus the next six times are taken into the finals of the regional, which will take place Saturday, but McConnell came up just short in heat one of the event. She will finish her career ranked second all-time in the CSU record book for the outdoor 800 meter.
Sophomore Neya Jamison made her NCAA West Regional debut in the women’s 400 meter hurdles, finishing 34th with a time of 59.76 seconds.
Rounding out the day in the women’s long jump was senior Taye Holker, who finished 28th with a jump of 6.25 meters. She will finish her career as a Ram, holding the number two spot all time in the women’s long jump.
The Rams now total four qualifiers for the NCAA Championship meet, which will take place June 5-8 in Eugene, Oregon. The Rams will be back on the track in Fayetteville Friday with four more athletes set to compete, hopeful to punch a ticket themselves.
