LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV women’s golf junior Toa Yokoyama finished the opening round of the NCAA Las Vegas Regional Monday on the Canyon and Lakes Courses at Spanish Trail Country Club (Par 72, 6,665 yards). The regional competition is being hosted by UNLV and the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority.
Yokoyama, who finished with a first-round 4-over 76, recovered from a slow start with an even-par 36 on the back nine to sit tied for 44th. Her momentum followed a birdie on the eighth hole that helped lead to two more the rest of the way.
Taking the day-one lead, Arkansas threw together an 8-under-par outing for a three-shot lead over Florida State (-5) in second and four-shot advantage over Purdue (-4) in third. Leading the Razorbacks’ charge is the individual leader in Kajal Mistry at 6-under 66 for a one-shot lead over the Seminoles’ Lottie Woad (-5).
The top five teams and the low individual not on those teams will advance to the NCAA Championship being held at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa from May 17-22 in Carlsbad, California.
UP NEXT: Yokoyama resumes the NCAA competition in Tuesday’s second round at 9:50 a.m. PT on the Lakes Course.
